The Barbie was reflected as a teen modle.  The barbie would change just as the girls around the world did. The dolls reflected the fashions and attitudes regardless of the era.  The Barbie was designed to fill a young girls need for role playing.  She was a familiar frlend and became a major part of the childs life.  The Barbie was a way Ruth Handler thought a child could interpret an adults life in different ways with different jobs and different syles that may suit the child and how they look at life.

The name Barbie came from her daughter Barbara and how she would watch her and her friends play with paper dolls maing them act like young adults.  Mrs. Handler got the name Ken from her  son , Ken.
